Rosemary "Rosie" K. Goodwin (nee George), age 94 and a lifelong resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice surrounded by her loving family.
Rosie was born August 28, 1929 in Amherst to the late Salem and Sadie George. She was a graduate of the former Central School in Amherst. Rosie enjoyed diversity in her career choices. For many years Rosie was employed as secretary for the Mayor's Office in Amherst, from where she retired. She helped create the former AmCrest Realty of Amherst. Rosie was a creative artistic woman who enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and cooking. Her greatest joy was her family. She supported all of them in their extra curricular activities as well as their sports activities.
Rosie was devoted to supporting her community in leadership roles. Her former memberships include the Amherst Business and Professional Woman's Club, the Democratic Woman's Club of Amherst, the Syrian Lebanese Club of Lorain, and the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was presently a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
She is survived by her nine children; Charles "Buddy" Goodwin of Amherst, Diane Russell of Amherst, Debby Maguire (Edward) of Amherst, Mary Ellen Denny (Michael) of Amherst, Cynthia Morosi (Anthony) of Amherst, Lisa Trace (Dennis) of Florida, Roseanne Kuncel (Daniel) of Amherst, JoAnne "Joey" Dobias (Ken) of Amherst, Theresa "Tracey" Wengrzynowicz (Curtis) of Michigan. At the time of her passing, Rosie called all of her 27 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren by name. She is also survived by her sister Kathryn Barnhardt of California.
In addition to her parents, Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Burl J. Goodwin (2014), her daughter Donna Howell (1998), and her siblings Thomas George, David George, Minnie Shand, Ellie Akers, and Salem George.
Family will receive friends on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday at church with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor officiating. Private family interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
