Janice Kay Swendseid (nee Potts), age 66 and a resident of Oberlin, passed
away Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain after a
brief illness.
Janice was a born February 8, 1954 in Columbus, Mississippi to the late
Charles W. and Annie D. (nee Johnson) Potts. She was a 1972 graduate of
Pickens Academy in Carrollton, Alabama. Following high school Janice
attended Ladow Technical College. Janice was a former employee of the
Pickens County Circuit Court where she worked as a clerk. While working at
the courthouse she met her future husband Nickolas G. Swendseid. They were
married November 21, 1981. During the 1980s they relocated to Oberlin and
remained there. While residing in Ohio Janice was employed by the former
Ted Jacobs, a women's retail clothing store and worked there until the store
was closed. Along with her husband, Janice and Nick worked together in
research for gas and oil companies. Her hobbies include home remodeling and
decorating, gardening, and cooking for family in the southern style.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years Nick Swendseid, her daughter
Catherine "Michelle" Tilley of Oberlin, and a brother Michael (Susan) Potts
of Alabama.
Family will receive friends 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020
at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. There will
be a 1:30 p.m. graveside service at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin following the
visitation.
