March 21, 1936 – January 14, 2024
Virginia "Ginger" L. Carter (nee Baumhardt), age 87 and a longtime resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Anchor Lodge, Lorain after a long illness. Ginger was born March 21, 1936 in Amherst to the late Edward and Julia (nee Bartish) Baumhardt. She was a 1954 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School. Ginger married her beloved husband Charles on May 9, 1959 after which they made Amherst their home and raised their family there. In the past, Ginger worked as a waitress at the former Lorain Country Club, Tiffany's, and lastly at Miller's Country Place in Avon. In retirement, Ginger and her husband wintered in Florida and enjoyed traveling. She also loved quilting and crafting. Most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren. Ginger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. Survivors include her three children; James Carter of Lorain, Christine Carter of Amherst, Charles Carter of Findley, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Esther Baumhardt of Rhode Island. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Carter (1999), son Jeff Carter (1982), daughter-in-law Lisa Carter, and brothers Jack and Edward Baumhardt. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, officiating. Everyone please meet at the church. Following mass, burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
