Obituary

Thomas P. Showalter, age 65, and a resident of Oberlin, fought bravely throughout his battle with cancer until his passing on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Thomas lived a life full of joy, simplicity, and hard work, finding happiness in nature and the little things that make life special. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, camping, or cruising on his Harley. He was also a cherished member of the Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442, where he built strong friendships that became a big part of his life.

For 30 years, Thomas proudly owned and ran Showalter’s Chimney Service, where he focused on building and cleaning chimneys. His dedication to his work, along with his strong work ethic and commitment to his customers, truly defined him.

In addition to his parents, Bob “Shorty” and Wanda Showalter, Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Showalter, and his brother, Michael Showalter.

Thomas is survived by his brothers, Tim and Gary (Cindy) Showalter; his sister Janice Senn; his nieces and nephews: Nurse Carrie (Matt) Snyder, Greg (Jadie) Showalter, Katie (Brent) Picha, Bobby Senn, Michael (Holly) Schmidt, Bobby (Danielle) Showalter, and Christopher (Shannon) Showalter; and his girlfriend, Kathy Ulichney.

He also leaves behind the next generation of his family: Austin and Charlotte Snyder, Haze, Isla, and Finn Showalter, Slade Picha, and Gavin and Vivi Showalter, as well as his mother-in-law, Janet Smith.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 3:00 to 6: 00 p.m. at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst.
