Phyllis Fravel, 91 years of age, passed away at The Village of St. Edwards in Fairlawn, Ohio on January 4, 2026, after a long and full life. She was born July 1, 1934, in Norwalk, Ohio and resided in Amherst most of her life.
Phyllis attended Lorain High School, where she earned the nickname "Smiley". She was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in June 1952. After graduation, she attended Lorain Business College and enjoyed a long secretarial career.
Phyllis was devoted to her family: sons Robert (Kim) of Port Clinton, Scott (Karen) of Medina, and Bill (Julie) of Ann Arbor. She had 6 grandchildren – Ashlee, Robert, Julia, Connor, Kaitlyn, and Kiley. She was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren – Skylar, Lilianna, Marley, Rory, Riley and Kaiden.
In her younger years she loved to travel. One of the highlights was when she traveled to England to study the heritage of the United Methodist Church. Phyllis was happiest when she could lend a helping hand. Volunteering for several organizations; she was an active member of Amherst United Methodist Church since 1966; where she sang tenor in the church choir for 31 years and served as chairperson on several committees. She also volunteered at the Lorain Metro Parks and the Cleveland Clinic.
Throughout her entire life, she was a devout Cleveland Indians baseball fan. Every year the highlight of the year was when baseball season started. She attended numerous games in her life, including the 2016 World Series. She loved to talk about baseball with anyone who shared the same love of the game.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Margaret Duncan, and her dear granddaughter, Julia Michelle Fravel.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation at Garland Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. A short prayer service will follow at the funeral home.
