Obituary

Michael W. Gronsky, age 101 and a resident of South Amherst, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

He was born in South Amherst, June 12, 1925 to the late Joseph and Theresa (nee Huya) Gronsky. Michael proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater from 1943 - 1946. When he returned from military service, he was employed at the former GM Fisher Body, Elyria where he retired from in 1987 after 32 years of employment as a molder. In retirement he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

Michael was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Catholic Church of South Amherst and was also a life member of VFW Post 1662 in Amherst.

His survivors include his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his longtime friend and caregiver for 11 years, Beckie Pale.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie (nee Frieschkorn) in 1981 and his wife Nancy (nee Spreng) in 2001, his brothers; Joe, John, Frank, Ed, and his sisters; Mary Moehl, Ann Szeliga, Sophie Altmiller, and Lucille Lewis.

Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst on Monday, July 6, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 333 So. Lake St., South Amherst with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, Pastor, officiating. Everyone please meet at church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst, with military rites conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
