Marie Robinson (nee Attie), age 92 and a life resident of Amherst, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Marie was born in Amherst, December 24, 1929 to the late Peter and Celia (nee Sabated) Attie. She graduated from Amherst's Central High School and was married in 1948. During all four years of high school she was class secretary, a member of the Latin Club, a member of the girls Athletic Association, and known as "I'm just all about Harry", who became her husband. Later in life Marie was inducted into the Gallery of Success at Marion L. Steele High School. Marie and Harry had eight children, six boys and two girls. Marie and Harry ran a small business together until 1977 when Harry suddenly passed away. Upon his death, Marie took over the business when she was only 47 years old. Her business was known as the former "Marie's Timbers" with "The Best Roast Beef In Town". Marie gave 100% to everything she did. Following Harry's death she was on the executive board of the former Amherst Potato Festival. She was the creator of the Potato Pal doll which were a big item during the days of the festival. She assisted in starting the Women Helping Others Club of Amherst which is a fundraising operation for women. It had formerly been called Amherst Business & Professional Women's Club, where she was voted "Woman of the Year" in 1997. She received letters, a plaque, and had several articles published in the newspapers for receiving such an award. Marie was a 50 year member of the Amherst Democratic Women's Club. She was also a volunteer campaign worker for U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown back in the days when he was running for congress. When Amherst used to host an annual mayor's ball, Marie was the director and head coordinator. For her hard work and dedication, then Mayor John Higgins declared November 13 as Marie Robinson Day in Amherst. She was also a former board member of Amherst Chamber of Commerce, serving for ten years and a past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. During the 1980s Marie served on the board of Lorain County Children Services. Marie was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a lector, sang in the Resurrection Choir, was a member of the church's Women's Guild, and participated in fundraisers for the church. In the past she also taught Sunday School to 1st graders. For several years Marie was also the president of the Catholic Golden Agers Club of St. Joseph Church. Survivors include her six children; Cindy Scheiferstein (Jeff) of Amherst, David Robinson (Juanita) of Amherst, Gene Robinson of Willowick, Diana Shoup (Matt) of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Peter Robinson (Patti) of Elyria, Jimi Robinson (Lynelle) of Elyria, 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and her brother Bob Attie (Denise) of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years Harry (1977), sons Alan Robinson and Bob "Bear" Robinson, grandsons Matthew Robinson and Bob Harry Robinson, and her siblings; Raphael Attie, Lucille Waldecki, Cinerma Preston, Eva Schwartz, Esther Smink, Blackie Attie, and Paul Attie. Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. The funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, officiating. There will be a private family burial in St. Joseph Cemetery on Friday. In Marie's honor, memorials may be made to Operation Rescue Inc., 814 Lincoln St., Amherst, OH 44001. Marie was an inspiration to everyone and lived by the motto "It is better to give than to receive". God bless and eternal memory.
