Lonnie Milton Parrett passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the age of 88, in South Amherst. Born on May 13,1936, Lonnie was known for his fun-loving nature and zest for life.
Lonnie proudly served in the United States Marine Corps just after graduating from high school from October 11, 1955 to October 10, 1958, specializing in agriculture before transitioning to the Marine Corps Reserves for an additional three years. During his service, he trained as an auto mechanic specifically for military vehicles and was honored with a Good Conduct Medal. He completed his duty as a Corporal.
Following his military service, Lonnie furthered his education with courses at a local college and subsequently worked at the Lorain Shipyards. Beyond his professional life, Lonnie was passionate about spending time with friends and family, frequenting flea markets, and indulging in his love for scrapping.
Lonnie is survived by his daughters Sue Bollin of Wooster, Denise (Eric) Smithberger of Wakeman and Franki Lentz of Zanesville; son, Lonnie Warne of Zanesville; grandchildren, Shane (Brandy) Warne, Shyloe (Dylan) Parrett, Cierra (Christopher) Warne, Lonnie Warne, LaeLani Warne; and great-grandchildren, Jerrett Chozinski, Alexis Warne, Shane Warne, Amaiya Runyon, Chloe Brady, Nikolai Ahn, Karlee Warne, Karter warne, Darryn Weissert and Kayden Weissert.
He was preceded in death by his parents Delmar and Erma Parrett; sisters, Lena Grimes and Ethel Odom, son-in-law, Terry Bollin and his best friend, Slim.
Services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church, 500 W. Main Street, South Amherst. Family and friends can gather at 11:30 a.m. with services beginning at noon with both Rev. Farrell Keith, officiating and Pastor Ray Rachel, a good friend of Lonnie, who will honor his wishes by delivering the eulogy. Burial with military rites conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst. A fellowship will follow the commital at Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church.
Lonnie's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his commitment to his community, but most importantly believing in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
