Obituary

Leon "Leo" Joseph Kudlo Jr., age 82 and a resident of Elyria, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center, Cleveland after a long illness. Leo was born August 28, 1938 in Lorain to the late Leon "Leo" and Annabelle "Ann" (nee Davis) Kudlo. Leo graduated from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School and attended Lorain High School where he was a member of the Class of 1956. Leo enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force serving from 1955 until 1956. In 1956, after leaving the Air Force, Leo began working as a meat cutter for the former Baisley's Grocery, continuing in various grocery store meat departments throughout the area. In the late 1960s Leo was a partner in the former Lorain Coin Shop until opening the former Leo's Country Auction in South Amherst. In 1976, Leo & Sons Furniture Restoration of Elyria was established and provided nationwide repair and refinishing services for 50 years until his retirement in 2016. Leo & Sons had a second showroom location on the square in Milan from 1996-2000. While growing up in Lorain Leo was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and after moving to Elyria was a member of the former Holy Cross Catholic Church until its closing. Leo was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 431 of Elyria. Survivors include his wife of 38 years Tammie Sue (nee Degan) Kudlo, daughter and son-in-law Debra and Tomas Flores of Elyria, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Annette Kudlo of Wakeman, daughter and son-in-law Ann and Mike Adams of West Salem, brother and sister-in-law John and Rachel Kudlo of Wakeman, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Tom Warren of Sandusky, sister Rose Lyon of New London (husband Keith deceased), sister and brother-in-law Annetta and Ray Lengyel of Wakeman, sister Patty Gross of LaGrange, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his son Leo Allen Kudlo (1995) and daughter Jennifer Lynn Kudlo (2015). Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Military rites will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard at 6:45 p.m. follow by the funeral service at 7 p.m. with Rev. David R. Trask, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oberlin officiating. Private family interment will take place in New Russia Township Cemetery.
