Obituary

Our Mom, June Marie Gotfried Wryst, passed peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021 after living fully 92 years of a satisfying life. Born on June 7, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, she started her career as a linotype operator at General Electric. She married our Dad, John Wryst, in 1951, and this city girl moved to the country, and together she and Dad owned and operated Henrietta Packing Company. She was a meticulous bookkeeper, a self-taught financial manager, due in part to her voracious reading habit, and an equal partner in running a business and raising a family. A long-time member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in South Amherst, June was steadfast in her faith and had an earnest prayer life. She moved in with Linda in 2015 where she enjoyed Florida living. June was proud of us, particularly as we are first generation college graduates and people who serve their communities: Linda Devine, (David) of Tampa, Michael Wryst (Nancy) of Amherst, and John Wryst (Mary) of Athens. She adored her grandkids and their partners: Robert Voege (Heather) of Boynton Beach (FL), Kelly Devine (Ian Rose) of San Francisco, Daniel Devine (Kayla Gleason) of Tampa, Joseph Wryst (Monica Sunderhaus) of Columbus (OH), and Nicholas Wryst of Bloomington (IN). She loved dogs, and her most recent companion was Pizza Marie. We want to express our utmost love and appreciation to family and friends that have walked alongside Mom and us these many years. Despite the physical challenges that came late in her life, June nevertheless persisted. We wish to express special gratitude to Ms. Tavia Robinson, June's nursing aide and confidant, Dr. Thomas Noh and his staff, and the West Tampa Davita Dialysis staff, all of whom provided compassionate care and guidance. We are fortunate to have been the children of this smart, sassy, tough - and totally loving - Mother. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 11 a.m until the Noon time of Mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 333 South Lake St., South Amherst. Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst. We are going to miss you, Mom. - Linda, Mike, and John. Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, Amherst, entrusted with arrangements.
