Joseph Alfred "Al" George, a lifelong resident of South Amherst, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023 in Lorain. He was born in Amherst on June 25, 1934 to the late Zachour and Jenny (Deeby) George. Al was preceded in death by the love of his life Jeannette (Yonkings) George, his daughter Ann Allison, grandson Frank Lenoci, great grandson Jaxon Joseph Howard, sisters Theresa Asmar and Victoria George, and his brother James George. Al was a car salesman early in his life and was the recipient of top sales awards from Chrysler-Plymouth. He later was employed by Ford Motor Company from where he retired. Al was an active member of the former Lebanese-Syrian Club and a lifetime member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church of South Amherst. He enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and visiting Jamie's Flea Market in South Amherst. He is survived by his daughters; Lisa (Scott) Huddleston of Gray Court, South Carolina, Kathy (Tom) Frye of Andalusia, Alabama, and Deborah (Rino) Lenoci of Lorain, grandchildren; Becky Kowallek, Mari (Travis) Kershaw, Joseph (Lynn) Frye, Robert (April) Kowallek, Edward Frye, Valerie (Josh) LaCroix, Laura Feeback (Jill Morgan), Wayde (Sarah) Huddleston, Erika (Rob) Howard, and Samantha Matus, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank his home caregiver Mabinity Conte, neighbor Martha Amato, and the nurses and staff of Autumn Aegis and Mercy New Life Hospice for their great care and compassion.
Friends will be received Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 333 South Lake St., South Amherst from 11 a.m. thru 1 p.m., with the funeral mass being celebrated at 1 p.m. with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
