Obituary

Jo Ann Grooms, age 77, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 12, 2026, in LaGrange, Ohio, following an illness.

Jo Ann was born on September 5, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Bertie (née Adkins) Riley and Walter Riley. She was the loving wife of her childhood sweetheart, Noble “Jack” Grooms, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.

Jo Ann was a devoted mother to five children, a proud grandmother of five grandchildren, a cherished great-grandmother of seven great-grandchildren, a loving sister, and a dear friend to many. She found joy in playing bingo, camping, shopping, cooking, sewing, traveling, and, above all, spending time surrounded by her family. Her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for those closest to her will be remembered always.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Noble “Jack” Grooms; her parents, Bertie (née Adkins) Riley and Walter Riley.

She is survived by her children, Eugene Grooms, Anthony (Terry) Grooms, Christopher Grooms, Andy (Anne) Taylor, and Molly (Robbie) Wallace; her grandchildren, Holly Grooms, Cheyenne (Mike) Bober, CJ Grooms, Riley Grooms, and Troy Wallace; her great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Annabella, Cayden, Jacob, Nova, Remi, and Drue; and her sister, Brenda ( John) Terry (née Riley).Jo Ann’s family will forever cherish the love, guidance, and countless memories she leaves behind. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., time of service with Rev. Mark Telepak, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Avon.
