Elizabeth "Betty" Stawicki (nee Stankura), age 90 and a longtime resident of Amherst, passed away at her daughter's home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born October 4, 1932 in Lorain to the late George and Helen (nee Pravda) Stankura. She was a graduate of Lorain High School. Throughout her life, Betty enjoyed volunteering, and was most proud of the 24 years she spent as a hospice volunteer, cake decorating, sewing, reading, her church activities, and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren. Betty worked as a cook at St. Joseph Church in Amherst for 12 years, 1970-1982. She served on the Liturgy planning committee for 25 years, and was on various other church committees. Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. Survivors include her children; David Stawicki (Amy), Cindy Hooker (Jerry), Tim Stawicki (Debbie), Chris Stawicki, Marty Stawicki (Laura), Brian Stawicki (Karen), Phillip Stawicki (Jen Ireland), daughter-in-law Jenny Stawicki, 23 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester "Chet" Stawicki (2009), son Chip Stawicki (2013), daughter-in-law Celia Stawicki, brother George Stankura Jr., infant brother Niklos Stankura, and sisters Marge Zementausk and Irene Bodzash. Family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, 2022 from noon until 1 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 p.m., with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, officiating. Private family burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty's honor may be made to St. Joseph School, 175 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst, OH 44001 or Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.
