Donald W. Barris Sr., 87, of Vermilion passed away September 15, 2023 after a short illness. He was born October 13, 1935 to his parents Walter and Cecil (nee Miller) in Amherst. Don attended Amherst schools.  In his younger years he was a volunteer fireman for the City of Amherst for ten years.  Don was retired from Union Local 18 Operating Engineers.  He was an avid motorcycle rider and a lifetime AMA member.  Don was involved with Amherst Meadowlarks since its inception in 1954.  He was always there to lend a helping hand to his family.  After retirement, he loved to travel with his wife Jean. He was loved by many and will truly be missed. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Jean (nee Somogyi) Barris, sons; Dale (Kathy Holbrook) of Amherst,  Donald Jr. (Kathi Gula) of Melbourne, Florida, Douglas Sr. (Becky Shank) of Wellington, Daniel of South Amherst, daughter Dana Adams (Seth) of Vermilion, grandchildren; Jennifer Grayson (Jake), Brittnee Fiskus (Brad), Donald III, Brandi, Douglas Jr., Cheryl Kline (Butch), Dylan (Gina), Sean Adams, Trevor Adams, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family suggests memorials contributions may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN  38105. A Celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, Amherst.
