Albert William Miller, age 89, was born on June 26, 1937, in Center Line, Michigan. He entered the gates of Heaven on August 25, 2026. He passed away peacefully at his home in Lorain, surrounded by his loving family.

Born to Joe and Sophie Miller, Al was one of six children. He and his siblings were a close-knit bunch who shared a very special bond, evident in the tremendous love and support they always showed one another.

Al graduated from Amherst High School in 1955. He married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Willis, on May 28, 1966, in Bellevue, Ohio. Together, they raised two wonderful children. Margaret preceded him in death in 1993.

Al worked at Armstrong Air in Bellevue, Ohio, first as a welder and later as a line supervisor. He retired in 2000. He was a member of UAW Local 162 and served as a union representative for many years. He took great pride in that position and in negotiating for and helping his fellow coworkers. Al also served in the United States Army Reserve and was very patriotic.

Later in life, Al married Jean Milligan on October 4, 2006, in Bellevue, Ohio. They shared a love of traveling and visited destinations throughout the United States together. Al proudly traveled to all 50 states during his lifetime and always enjoyed talking about that accomplishment.

Al was a devout Catholic whose faith was exemplified by the way he lived his life. He especially enjoyed visiting the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio. He was also a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council No. 4891.

Al was an enthusiastic and devoted Notre Dame fan. He attended countless games with family and friends throughout the years and traveled across the country to watch his Fighting Irish compete in several bowl games. He and his son, Mike, shared a special bond through their love of the Fighting Irish.

“God, Country, and Notre Dame” was the mantra Al lived by. Saturdays were always reserved for Notre Dame football. To Al, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame were much more than a football team. They were a way of life. His favorite saying was always, “Go Irish!” Many of his family members and friends shared his love of Notre Dame, and together they created countless wonderful memories. Al was blue and gold through and through.

In addition to Notre Dame football, Al loved following Notre Dame women’s basketball. He was a true superfan who faithfully supported all his Notre Dame teams. Al and his son also shared a love of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Pistons. They attended many Tigers games together and spent countless hours watching, listening to, and talking about their favorite teams.

Al enjoyed watching nearly every sport, but he especially loved watching his two beautiful granddaughters, Ava and Alivia, play fastpitch softball in Florida. When he could not attend their games in person, he followed them closely on his phone. He and Jean traveled to Florida every year to watch as many of their games as possible.

Al also had two grandsons whom he proudly called “the boys.” He followed his grandson Brandon throughout his robotics career and proudly told anyone who would listen that his grandson was an engineer at NASA. He also supported his grandson Justin in all his athletic endeavors when he was younger, attending his football and baseball games whenever possible. As Justin grew older, the two of them loved talking about sports together.

Al could not have been prouder of all his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He was truly a proud Papa.

Al loved watching Jeopardy! and could beat almost anyone who played against him. Because of his remarkable knowledge of nearly everything, he was often affectionately referred to as “Mr. Google.”

He also loved music and believed it was the language of the soul. He particularly loved Willie Nelson. Adding to his repertoire, Al was a member of the famed “Miller Mandolin Trio,” which consisted of Al, his brother Joe, and his sister Joan. He enjoyed playing both the mandolin and the guitar.

Al was extremely proud of both his children. In addition to the special bond he shared with his son, Mike, Al shared a remarkable bond with his daughter, Michelle. They spent many cherished moments together, including Notre Dame games, visits in Florida, their one-on-one days, and their special Father’s Day traditions. She was his sunshine, and he loved her to the moon and back.

Al is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Michelle Lajiness (Mike); his son, Michael Miller (Christie); his grandsons, Brandon and Justin Sidoti; and his granddaughters, Ava and Alivia Miller.

He is also survived by his siblings, Joan “Sis” Rosenbusch, Joe (Linda) Miller, Marilyn Smart, Patricia (Patrick) Welter, and John (Linda) Miller. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as many special members of his blended family.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Sophie Miller, and his first wife, Margaret Miller.

Family will receive friends Friday, August 28, 2026, from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst, until closing prayers at 1:30 PM, followed by a 2 PM Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr, Amherst, with Rev. Timothy J. O'Connor officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
