OBITUARY

JOSEPH F. STEFANIK

Joseph “Joe” F. Stefanik, age 84, a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, surrounded by his wife and family who loved and adored him.

 

Joe was born June 12, 1935 in Mather, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Leah (nee Brockman) Stefanik.  He served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1956, after which he was a graduate of Waynesburg College and later West Virginia University with a Master of Education.  Joe’s teaching career began at Lorain Admiral King High School upon its opening in 1961, where he instructed business classes until retirement in 1989.  A resident of Lorain, he moved to Wellington following retirement and most recently resided in Amherst Township.  Joe enjoyed woodworking, gardening, mechanics and was an all around handyman.  Most of all, he enjoyed helping and spending time with his family.    

 

Joe attended Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, and previously was a member of First Congregational Church, Wellington.  He was also a former member of the Black River Masonic Lodge.

 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Betty N. (nee Gossett) Stefanik, their six children; Cheryl Miller of Lorain, Brenda (David) Bartock of Rochester, New York, Joseph (Margaret) Stefanik of Lebanon, Indiana, Diane (Mitch) Witherell of Grafton, Marilyn (Alfred Zocchi) Sparks of Wellington, Linda (Merle) Simmons of Wellington, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and his brother Michael (Jean) Stefanik of California.

 

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his infant son Joseph Jr. (1958) and his sister Nancy Reed.

 

Family will receive friends 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. time of service on Saturday at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst.  Entombment will follow with military rites conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
