Daniel “Dan” A. Dietlin, age 79 and a longtime resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain after a sudden illness.


Daniel was born in Oberlin, March 22, 1941 to the late John W. and Esther (nee McGinty) Dietlin.  Daniel was a 49 year employee of the Ford Motor Company working at the former Lorain Assembly Plant as a pipefitter.  He enjoyed meeting weekly for breakfast with his Ford retiree friends at Bob Evans restaurant.  Dan loved to golf, travel, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and through the years attended many of their sporting events.


Survivors include his wife of 59 years Sally Lee (nee Kilgore) Dietlin, their four children; Carrie (James) Northeim of Vermilion, Kelly (Thomas) Jama of Elyria, John D. Dietlin of Amherst, Stephany (Scott) Jones of North Ridgeville, five grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great grandson.


In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother Paul Dietlin and sisters Peggy Rosenthal, Patricia Roberts, and Kate Ketchum.


Family will receive friends Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. time of service at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst.  Rev. Timothy O’Connor, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst.
